Opposition leaders give thumbs-up to MRT service
(The Sun Daily) – Opposition leaders gave the thumbs-up to the MRT service after their maiden ride on the newly launched public transport.
PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar, Tian Chua and Fahmi Fadzil who went on a 20-minute trip on MRT from Taman Tun Dr Ismail to Sungai Buloh said they would support any move to improve the land public transportation system.
However, Nurul Izzah, who is the Lembah Pantai MP, said the cost to use the service must be affordable to users and not something that would burden them.
“Yes, it is great and we are happy. We support the public transportation,” she said in a press conference held at MRT Sungai Buloh station.
Nurul Izzah said she would urge the government to set up a special parliamentary committee to deal with issues relating to land public transportation, such as matters involving the construction cost and tender process.
The committee, she added, would also allow all stakeholders to have a platform to raise views and hold discussions with parliamentarians.
“We can also provide our own feedback. We want MRT to succeed,” she said.
Meanwhile, Chua said there was still room for improvement such as better connecting services to cater to the need of those living in areas far from the stations.
