You have zero seats, PAS tells Amanah
(FMT) – PAS says Amanah has no say in seat negotiations with other opposition parties simply because its present MPs won their seats on the PAS ticket at the last polls.
“Amanah should realise that their seats belong to PAS. How can they say Amanah owns the seats?” asked PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
“During the 13th General Election, the seats were contested by PAS. Amanah didn’t even exist at the time,” he told Malay-language daily Sinar Online.
His comments came after Amanah communications director Khalid Samad told PAS to stop interfering with Pakatan Harapan’s discussions on the allocation of seats among Amanah, DAP and PKR.
Amanah was formed in 2015, months after the purge of the “progressive” faction at the PAS muktamar. The party currently has six MPs and seven state assemblymen, all of whom are former PAS members.
Tuan Ibrahim said PAS would never interfere in the affairs of other parties but would defend its seats.
He added that Amanah must learn how to resolve its internal conflicts before accusing PAS of dividing the opposition.
“Amanah is facing internal problems of its own. Sometimes, even the statements issued by the party leaders portray this.
“For example, remarks on seats distribution. They contradict one another. There is no mutual understanding there. They themselves are not united.”
