Dr M admits BN will win GE14 if PAS does not join Pakatan Harapan
(Barnama) – Umno or Barisan Nasional (BN) will possibly win the coming general election if PAS refuses to join Pakatan Harapan and puts its candidate in three-cornered fights, said Chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“Opposition supporters will be divided and this means that PAS will be helping Umno or BN win. Whichever party it is, if there is a three-cornered fight, then the intention is to help support Umno and BN,” he said.
The former prime minister said PPBM will not beg PAS leaders to join Pakatan Harapan despite the one month which has been given for it to decide.
“We have tried to resolve this deadlock and we are patient… I don’t want to crawl and kiss the feet of the PAS leaders.
“But we are open and still give PAS one month even though they say it is not necessary,” he told reporters after handing over letters of appointment to division leaders in Peninsular Malaysia, here today.
On February 1, PPBM Deputy President Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir had a meeting with PAS Deputy President Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man in Kuala Lumpur to pave the way for a collaboration between the two parties.
Asked if PAS wanted only a collaboration with PPBM and Parti Amanah Negara (PAN), but not with DAP, Dr Mahathir said: “Bersatu cannot forgo working with DAP because the party currently holds 36 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, while PAS, which isn’t the biggest opposition party, has less than 26.”
