Name your proxy Prime Minister candidate, Kit Siang told
(Malaysia Outlook) – DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang does not care who becomes the Prime Minister should the Opposition wrest Putrajaya from Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming general election, as long as the person holding the post follows his lead.
In claiming this, former DAP national vice chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim urged Kit Siang to declare to the Malay voters, who is his proxy Prime Minister candidate for Pakatan Harapan.
“That is why the Prime Minister post will be a proxy to Kit Siang,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said at a press conference at the Eastin Hotel in Petaling Jaya today.
“For Kit Siang, it does not matter who is Prime Minister. The most important thing is that they follow his lead,” he said, highlighting that it came to light before this that Kit Siang was promised the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance posts.
Tunku Abdul Aziz pointed out that Prime Minister Najib Razak himself over the weekend had suggested that the post of Deputy Prime Minister seemed to be the most important and crucial to the Opposition.
Najib who spoke in Sabah said that this is based on the fact that the Opposition so far is only able to agree on who will become DPM if they capture Putrajaya.
The Prime Minister asked if it will be a case of the DPM deciding on who the PM will be, which he labelled as nothing short of an Ali Baba political arrangement, should it happen.
“It must be remembered that it is the PM who decides on who the deputy will be and not the other way around,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said, elaborating that the DPM post is not a constitutional position.
“The appointment of the DPM is at the pleasure of the PM,” he said, adding that it will be a case of the ‘tail wagging the dog’ should it be the other way around.
In related developments, Tunku Abdul Aziz asked what has become of Mukhriz Mahathir, who was allegedly promised the PM post in a secret pact made between Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) chairman Mahathir Mohamad and Kit Siang.
“He was promised the PM post in return for Kit Siang being appointed as DPM and Minister of Finance.
“However, many think of Mukhriz as weak and without charisma. He is generally considered an unlikely candidate to lead the country,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said.
