Kit Siang wants non-Malays to leave the government

(FMT) – DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang has called for ministers from MCA, MIC and Gerakan to quit the cabinet if PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s private member’s bill is given priority by the government and comes up in the Dewan Rakyat for debate.

“They should submit their resignation from the cabinet and have it take effect the moment Hadi’s motion is given priority,” the Gelang Patah MP said at a press conference in Parliament today.

“This is the least that the ministers from the MCA, Gerakan, MIC, as well as Sabah and Sarawak BN parties can do, to show they are men and women of principle, and that they are not in politics just for position, money and power,” Lim said.

When asked if PAS’ efforts to explain the need for the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) were effective, and if DAP understood the explanation, Lim seemed upset by the question and replied with another question.

“Did PAS understand what G25 or other NGOs said about Act 355, and how it is against the Federal Constitution?” Lim said, before raising his voice and asking the reporter “where are you from?”

To another question as to whether Pakatan Harapan MPs had come up with a unified stand against Hadi’s bill, the veteran MP said: “Don’t look at the opposition, look at the 131.”

“Why should you look at the opposition? If from that 131 (MPs), 45 withdraw, the government will collapse,” he said, referring to the total number of Barisan Nasional MPs in the Dewan Rakyat, of which 45 MPs are from parties other than Umno.
