Muhyiddin: Pribumi staying out of Sabah and Sarawak

(The Star) – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia will not have branches in Sabah and Sarawak, neither will it contest for seats in the two states, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic).

The Pribumi president said this was “a pragmatic decision” by the party so that it can pay more attention to peninsular Malaysia.

“For now, we are not planning anything in Sabah or Sarawak.

“In terms of structure, we don’t want to spread out too much.

“This will allow us to give more time and attention for programmes in the peninsula,” he said at a press conference at the party headquarters Tuesday.

“In terms of seats, we will contest only in the peninsula for now.

“When the time comes, we will expand.

“We are pragmatic. We do not want to be excited. Once we become strong here, we will expand there as well,” he said.

Muhyiddin also announced the names of the Pribumi state chairmen and their deputies.

They include Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who will head Kedah Pribumi and Datuk Kamarudin Nor in Kelantan.

Other finalised states include Penang, Terengganu, Perak, Selangor, Malacca, Pahang and Johor.

He said the names of Pribumi heads in Perlis, Negri Sembilan and Federal Territory would be finalised soon.
