Rafizi: MACC traced 1MDB funds to PAS-linked individual

PKR vice-president says he will reveal the individual’s identity soon, and hints PAS and Umno will have a tough time dealing with the fallout from the revelation.

(FMT) – Rafizi Ramli today claimed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had traced the flow of funds from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) to an individual close to the PAS leadership.

In a statement, the PKR vice-president said this was the result of MACC’s investigation into the funds of the state investment arm which had purportedly been transferred into Prime Minister Najib Razak’s accounts.

Therefore, Rafizi said, there was no need for him to submit evidence to MACC as suggested by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.

“I will reveal the identity of the individual in the weeks to come and will lodge a report with MACC,” Rafizi said.

Yesterday, Rafizi claimed to have evidence that an individual close to PAS had received 1MDB funds, and challenged PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to respond.

The Pandan MP added that once he unmasked the recipient of the funds, both Umno and PAS would have to deal with the fallout, especially if the attorney-general decided to close the case as this would lead to speculation of government interference.

“The PAS leadership at every level will have to check whether they have ever received any form of financial aid or funding as there is a huge possibility that those funds came from the rakyat through 1MDB.”

He said this meant PAS was even more indebted to Najib. The Islamist party has recently refused to work with the other opposition parties.

Rafizi’s allegations come months after PAS said it would initiate legal action against Kelantan Amanah adviser Husam Musa, who had accused the Islamist party of receiving RM90 million from Umno.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has vehemently denied the allegations.

Husam had claimed that the money had been channelled through Affin Bank.
