PAS delegate wants Hadi as adviser to King
Hailing Hadi as the ‘second highest ulama leader in the world’, the member from Johor says he is qualified to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
(FMT) – A Johor PAS delegate has proposed that party president Abdul Hadi Awang be appointed as the adviser to Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V.
Nazari Mokhtar today said he hoped that the royal adviser to the King would be an ulama (Islamic scholar).
Describing Hadi as the “second highest ulama leader in the world”, he said the Marang MP was the most appropriate person for the job.
“The most suitable person is our president,” he said at PAS’ 63rd Muktamar (general assembly) at the Kedah PAS Complex in Kota Sarang Semut near here today
Nazari said Hadi, who is a vice-president of the World Ulama Congress, is suited due to his religious and educational background, and his experience as a Muslim scholar and leader.
He also said Hadi’s ability to speak Malay meant that what he said could be understood by people in the region, including in Indonesia.
“I would like to remind all of you that the words spoken by Hadi are the words of an ulama and are analysed by experts in the world who can understand Malay,” he said.
Hadi has recently been highly glorified by PAS supporters who have defended him strongly against recent criticism.
Earlier this month, PAS members held demonstrations against the publication of a caricature on Hadi by the Nanyang Siang Pau newspaper.
On April 11, Penang PAS commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusof warned media outlets, reminding them of what had happened to Paris-based satirical publication Charlie Hebdo whose office was attacked by terrorists in January 2015 after it published cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad.
Fauzi had described Hadi, being the vice-president of the World Ulama Congress, as a revered Muslim figure across the world.
“This man is a leader among ulama worldwide. If this cartoon is circulated worldwide, it would only anger the Muslim world again,” Fauzi had said after leading a delegation to register the state party’s complaint at the Nanyang office in Penang.
The current PAS muktamar is the party’s second assembly since its elections in 2015 which saw the defeat of several veteran leaders who contested top posts.
These leaders later set up Amanah, which is now part of Pakatan Harapan together with PKR, DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
Many PAS leaders have described the two muktamars that have taken place since then as “peaceful”.
