Parti Cinta Malaysia wants to team up with PAS
(The Star) – Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) is expected to join forces with PAS’ third bloc, known as Gagasan Sejahtera.
PCM president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan said the Penang-based party was discussing the possibility with PAS after their muktamar.
Gagasan is made up of PAS, Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) and Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa).
Huan said joining Gagasan would send a message to DAP not to be arrogant.
“If we decide to be an ally, our focus will be on abuse of power, eradicating corruption and environmental issues in Penang,” he said yesterday.
He added that they would also raise issues affecting housing, transport, retrenchment and the closing of multinational companies in the state.
“Currently, we are an independent party, but PAS has been a good friend, and this may change into a closer working cooperation. I see that there can be an alliance in Penang.
“We also hope many more NGOs will join the pact,” he added.
Huan added that joining Gagasan Sejahtera and becoming an ally to PAS would be the right decision as there is no other active Malay-based opposition.
In another development, a PAS delegate lambasted the Penang DAP-led state government for allowing mega projects which it once would have vehemently protested against.
Penang PAS delegate Mohd Yusni Mat Pia said DAP was hypocritical as it was quick to protest against the Barisan Nasional state government for its proposed transportation masterplan prior to coming to power.
“Now DAP wants to build an undersea tunnel and the Penang South Reclamation projects. They are allowing developers to build luxury homes on the reclaimed islands meant for the wealthy and elite.
“The term here is not rumah mampu milik (affordable homes) but only mampu tengok (only afford to see),” he said when debating the motion of thanks on the president’s policy speech at the party’s muktamar here yesterday.
