Give room for young generation to pursue Umno’s struggle

(Bernama) – At present, the party was seen as not giving enough for the young people to do so with them being looked upon as a threat to existing leaders instead.

Umno needs to provide ample room for the young generation to pursue the party’s struggle in tandem with its 71st anniversary this May 11.

Bandar Tun Razak Umno division leader Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar said at present, the party was seen as not giving enough for the young people to do so with them being looked upon as a threat to existing leaders instead.

“That is why we see many young people going to the opposition because we (Umno) do not appreciate them,” he told Bernama here today.

If such a situation were to continue, he said, the process of rejuvenating Umno would not be realised.

He said Umno, which in principle champions for the Malays, should be more open and not to be racist in its actions and activities to attract the young generation.

He said racist-based politics was no longer relevant in Malaysia as the young people were now more concerned with being Malaysians.

Meanwhile, Cheras Umno division leader Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee said this year’s anniversary should be a reminder of the huge contribution made by Umno, which is the pillar of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, for the people in the country.

He said it was also a recognition for Umno in continuously given the mandate by the people to form the government with other BN component parties.

“We see leaders changing, but Umno remains on the right track in championing the people’s interests,” he added.
