Ku Li: What’s wrong with Umno-PAS cooperation in GE14?

(MMO) – Umno’s Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah downplayed today concerns over Umno and PAS’ cooperation in the 14th general elections (GE14).

The Gua Musang MP, also known as Ku Li, said there is nothing wrong with such a collaboration due to the tendencies of both parties’ leaders in their commentaries and speeches.

“Some of the government’s policies are supported by PAS. So, what’s wrong if there is a cooperation in the political arena like the general elections if it does not harm both sides?” Ku Li was quoted saying in a Sinar Online report.

Despite that, the Umno veteran said it remains to be seen whether the decision will be accepted by the grassroots, especially when it comes to seat distribution and election candidates.

He also said that the Gua Musang Umno does not favour such move, despite his agreement.

“There is nothing wrong if we cooperate even with other parties, there is no difference for elections if it benefits our party,” he reportedly said.

Last week, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor said it is up to the PAS leadership to determine if the party should return to Umno’s fold.

He said Umno is an inclusive party which is prepared to listen and provide the opportunity if PAS wished to return to Umno with sincerity and honesty.

However, in March, Umno had said that PAS is its political foe in Kelantan, amid continued speculation that the two parties would work together for the next general election.

Kelantan Umno chief Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the “reality” was that the federal opposition parties of PAS, PKR, Amanah and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia are Umno’s political enemies.
