Dr M as PM proposal shows internal tiff within Pakatan, Umno rep says

(MMO) – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s admission that he is prepared to reprise his role as the prime minister suggests an internal dispute within Pakatan Harapan, Khairul Azwan Harun has said.

The Umno youth deputy chief was reported by Utusan Malaysia as saying that Dr Mahathir’s opinion on the matter showed that the federal Opposition has yet to decide on a potential candidate for the role if it wins the next general election.

The squabbles, Khairul Azwan said, was also evident within the component parties, particularly in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and PKR.

“In PPBM, (chairman) Dr Mahathir and president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is fighting against each other for the number one post, while its deputy president, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir has become irrelevant.

“In PKR, its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and deputy Datuk Seri Azmin Ali are pitting on each other to push for their own respective agendas,” Khairul Azwan was quoted as saying.

As for Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), the Umno senator claimed that the party was insignificant and had no voice, while DAP was only waiting to take full control of the Opposition.

In a live interview broadcast yesterday, Dr Mahathir said he does not intend to become the prime minister again, but may reconsider if he was “forced” by Pakatan Harapan.

The 91-year-old left office in 2003 after 22 years as Malaysia’s prime minister.
