MACC to question more than 50 people in Felda investigation

(The Sun Daily) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified more than 50 individuals to be called in to assist in the investigation involving Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV).

Its deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki said this included several individuals from the organisation, including FGV chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad and president and chief executive officer Datuk Zakaria Arshad.

“All those identified will be called in to have their statements recorded beginning this week. This is vital in order to allow MACC to complete our investigation into the case.

“If the need arises, they (Isa and Zakaria) will be called in to give their statements too,” he said in a statement today.

Azam said its investigation team would also pay another visit to Felda’s headquarters to obtain more documents in relation to issues that have been brought up since investigation started last week.

He said MACC’s investigation focuses on six issues involving FGV, and that all the issues would be studied in detail in order to collect evidence.

On how long it would take for investigation to be completed, Azam said: “It depends on the cooperation given by all the witnesses who would be called in soon.”

The issue involving FGV came to light after a boardroom tussle resulted in Zakaria and three others being ordered to take leave of absence while investigations are conducted on alleged discrepancies which involved “many millions of ringgit”.
