PKR denies endorsing Mahathir as PH leader

(THE MOLE) – PKR today denied a report that it has agreed for Pribumi Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to lead the Pakatan Harapan’s pro-tem committee.

Its information chief Fahmi Fadzil told The Mole today that the party has not made any decision on the matter at its its political bureau meeting last night.

“I cannot tell you what was discussed in last night’s meeting but I can tell you that The Malaysian Insight (TMI) has got their facts all wrong,” said Fahmi.

TMI this morning reported that PKR has agreed for Dr Mahathir to lead PH. Quoting sources, the portal reported that PKR made the decision because it believed that doing so will enhance the coalition’s prospects of capturing Putrajaya in the next general election.

“We (PKR) agreed for Dr Mahathir to lead the coalition as we believe he can help capture Malay votes which have been monopolised by Umno all this while,” one of the TMI’s  sources was quoted as saying.

The PH pro-tem committee is to facilitate the registration of the opposition coalition. The process has been delayed for weeks due to the inability of the component parties to decide on their leader.
