Dr Mahathir dares Rosmah to sue him

(FMT) – He does this after citing an allegation in the recent DoJ report that some US$1.3 million of jewellery had been purchased with 1MDB money.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad today cited an allegation from the recent Department of Justice (DoJ) filings on 1MDB, urging the prime minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor to carry out her threat of taking her accusers to court.

“Rosmah says she wants to hunt down those who slander her, and I do not fear because this is not slander. Courage for truth,” the PPBM chairman said in a short video clip posted on his Facebook today.

It comes two days after lawyers acting for Rosmah warned that they were “monitoring social media and all forms of publications”.

“Recently, more malicious and baseless attacks have surfaced against Rosmah Mansor on blogs and social media,” said a statement by law firm Messrs Noorhajran Mohd Noor, following a spike in postings linking the prime minister’s wife to allegations of embezzlement in the DoJ report.

“These attacks are false allegations made without any proof or basis, done with malice with the sole intent of putting Rosmah in disrepute, casting aspersions of alleged wrongdoings and causing harm and injury to her reputation.”

Dr Mahathir cited one of the findings in the DoJ report about a purchase of jewellery worth some US$1.3 million (RM5.5 million), using money it said was stolen from 1MDB.

“If you are brave, sue us. I am prepared,” said Mahathir.

The US report, which did not name Rosmah or Prime Minister Najib Razak, is the second to be filed by DoJ, seeking to recover assets including art works, jewellery and film rights believed to have been paid for with funds siphoned from 1MDB.
