Police to record statements over alleged plot to topple PM

(The Star) – Police will be recording statements from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and others over allegations of a plot to topple the Prime Minister, said the Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim (pic) said police will call in individuals relevant to the investigation to record their statements.

When asked if it will include Dr Mahathir, Noor Rashid said “Yes”.

He was speaking to reporters after launching the “Hari Hijau PDRM 2017” at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here on Saturday.

Dr Mahathir had recently alleged that during his meeting with Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid, the Deputy Prime Minister had asked for his support to replace Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

On Friday, Dr Ahmad Zahid had denied Dr Mahathir’s allegations, saying that he had a voice recording of the meeting.

Without naming Dr Mahathir, Dr Ahmad Zahid said it was an “individual” who suggested a vote of no-confidence against Najib.

Both camps have lodged police reports regarding the matter.

The case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.
