Do Chinese voters support Mahathir as the prime minister again?

(China Press) – DAP is championing “Malaysia for Malaysians” while Pribumi is for “Malay supremacy” and Parti Amanah a liberal “Islamic state”. Will the voters who vote for Pakatan Harapan get what he or she does not wish for?

After the four component parties of Pakatan Harapan completed their registration procedure, the four parties will join forces in the next general election under a common logo. Any votes for Pakatan Harapan is tantamount to voting for DAP, PKR, Parti Pribumi and Parti Amanah. However DAP is championing “Malaysia for Malaysians” while Pribumi is for “Malay supremacy” and Parti Amanah a liberal “Islamic state”. Will the voters who vote for Pakatan Harapan get what he or she does not wish for?

In the last election, DAP assured the Chinese voters to vote for PAS without fear and emphasized that a vote for PAS was a vote for DAP. Consequently it nearly led the Chinese to the “path of no return”. As for this coming general election, will DAP repeat the same assurance given to the Chinese voters to vote for Parti Amanah, a splinter group of PAS? Or to Parti Pribumi who champions for “Malay Supremacy”? The most crucial matter is: does supporting DAP mean supporting Mahathir as the “7th Prime Minister of Malaysia”?

Lately, Lim Kit Siang is trying very hard to clear the past bad deeds done by Mahathir. He said although Mahathir is a controversial political figure, he is a very strong and capable leader. They need Mahathir for the emergence of the “Malay tsunami”; they need Mahathir to change the government; he urges the people not to look into the past but look forward to the present and the future. How can voters forget the past when the past is the main cause of the present dilemma? How can voters trust Lim Kit Siang’s propaganda easily to invite the tyrant Mahathir as the next Prime Minister?

In the past the Chinese voters were fearful of PAS’ “Islamic state”, but DAP assured them by championing for PAS and it caused them their first fatal mistake. At present the Chinese hate and are fed up with Mahathir but Lim Kit Siang hugs him closely. This may be the second deadly mistake made by DAP.

Asking Mahathir to change his style?

DAP gets its influence through the Chinese voters’ support. If they lose the support of the Chinese, DAP will be nothing. Trying to use Mahathir’s influence to defeat Najib is beneficial and easy strategy. The verbal attacks one after another from Mahathir seem to hurt his rival but it also causes heavy damages to DAP. It may jeopardize DAP’s chance to obtain the support from the Malays and even lose the Chinese anchor votes.

If Mahathir really becomes the head of the 4 component parties, DAP’s future will be determined by him. The slogan of “equal standing or footing” and be “involved in governing and leading the government” may be a white lie to pacify themselves. Is it possible for Mahathir who had been a dictator for the past four decades to change his style?

Mahathir disclosed that once Pakatan Harapan takes control of Putrajaya, he will review all the development plans held jointly by China and Malaysia. Besides that he will also establish the second national car project. Are such remarks his or Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto? If it is the manifesto of Pakatan Harapan, why isn’t it blessed by PKR or DAP?

Venturing into the “One belt One road” development project initiated by China is a rare opportunity for Malaysia to scale an economic peak. It is also a golden opportunity for trilingual Malaysian Chinese to contribute to national development. Mahathir is dead against China investments. Will it dash the hopes of the Malaysian Chinese and the opportunity for the nation to achieve prosperity? Once the leader of anti-China feelings and investments becomes the “7th Prime Minister”, will it be beneficial or disastrous to the country and the people of all races? If Mahathir wants to be the next Prime Minister, can DAP stop him?
