Hold the beer festival in Selangor instead

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali can announce that since the federal government will not allow the “Better Beer Festival 2017” to be held in Kuala Lumpur, then the Selangor State Government will allow it to be held in Shah Alam instead. Azmin can also announce that he respects the rights and liberties of Malaysians to live their lives the way they wish and that no ‘religious fanatics’ are going to be allowed to dictate what can and cannot be done in Selangor.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Why is DAP MP Charles Santiago screaming about ‘creeping Islamisation’? (DAP: Beer Festival Ban Sign Of Creeping Islamisation). Charles Santiago’s comment comes after a number of DAP and PKR leaders whacked the federal government for not allowing the “Better Beer Festival 2017” to be held in Kuala Lumpur.

Charles is suggesting that Islam is evil and oppressive and violates civil liberties and human rights. That is like suggesting that Hindus in India who murder Muslims who slaughter cows are criminals. Those Hindus opposed to the killing of cows are merely defending their religious rights. Has any Muslim nation ever condemned India for this?

If Pakatan Harapan feels that the “Better Beer Festival 2017” is very important and should be held, and if the federal government does not allow it to be held in Kuala Lumpur, then hold it in Selangor instead. There are a lot of places such as Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, and so on, where this beer festival can be held.

It is good that Pakatan Harapan holds this “Better Beer Festival 2017” in Selangor to prove to the voters that they will not allow the ‘religious extremists’ and ‘fanatics’ to dictate how Malaysians live their lives. If Malaysians want to organise beer festivals, gay pride parades, ladyboy beauty pageants, biggest boobs contests, largest dick contests, or whatever, that is the right of Malaysians and no one should impose their religious values on others.

Of course, the Selangor Palace might protest but then DAP and PKR already said back in 2013 that HRH the Sultan of Selangor has no business interfering in state administrative matters. So, if the Palace or HRH protests, Pakatan Harapan should just tell them to mind their own business and not interfere in matters that do not concern the Palace or HRH the Sultan.

Pakatan Harapan should not allow the Sultan to violate Malaysia’s secular state status

As DAP said many times, Malaysia is a secular state and in a secular state there must be separation of state and church. If not you would not call it a secular state. Hence Islam has no business telling Malaysians what they can and cannot do. And even if Muslims want to attend the “Better Beer Festival 2017” to get drunk no one should tell them they cannot do that.
