Tunku Aziz: Publish the name of auditors involved in CEC re-election

“DAP must hold the re-election as soon as possible because they are wasting time and coming up with excuses, that looks to me like delay tactics”

PETALING JAYA: Former DAP national vice-chairman, Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim has challenged the party to have in place, independent observers to monitor the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) re-election process.

He said there was a need for the appointment of an independent as well as respected auditors to ensure a fair party election.

“I am directing this in particular to the (DAP) adviser Lim Kit Siang and secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who have always represented themselves as great proponents of free and fair elections to show that they mean what they say by opening themselves and the methods they employ in conducting the re-election to the closest public scrutiny,” he said.

“The name of the firm should also be published.

“They should allow for the RoS (Registrar of Societies) to appoint a team of independent observers to monitor the party’s re-election to ensure that it is properly conducted this time and to prove what they portray themselves to be,” he said in a press conference today.

Tunku Abdul Aziz said DAP members have every right to demand for the publication of such key information, as an assurance that the forthcoming CEC re-election will be held in accordance with the conditions prescribed by the RoS.

Tunku Abdul Aziz said it looks as if though DAP is dragging their feet over the requirements set by the RoS and that they have yet to set a date up until now.

“DAP must hold the re-election as soon as possible because they are wasting time and coming up with excuses, that looks to me like delay tactics.

“The party needs to prove that it is one that is fighting for the interest of their members and not in the interest of their leaders who want to cling to power.

“What I saw was that its leaders cut corners in the last re-election, deploying tactics that would continue to keep themselves in power and not actually taking in account what the members want.

“The CEC election originally held in 2012 was clearly manipulated to produce an outcome favourable to the preservation of the father and son (Kit Siang and Guan Eng) leadership of the party,” he said.
