Syed Saddiq claims he is being blackmailed

(The Star) – Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (pic), who in a press conference Monday claimed he was offered RM5mil to leave the country, says that he is being blackmailed.

“I’ll be going to the police station first because this involves blackmailing, which is a particularly sensitive issue as it involves my parents, brother and myself,” the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth chief said on Tuesday.

However, he did not disclose who was behind it or what he was being blackmailed for.

Syed Saddiq said he would make a police report on Wednesday and seek their advice.

He said that if necessary, he would then make a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“This (meeting the police) will be done tomorrow and I’ll meet the MACC the day after,” he said.

Earlier, MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Pakatan Harapan deputy president Lim Guan Eng both urged Syed Saddiq to lodge a report if he had evidence that he was offered money to leave the country.

Syed Saddiq also refuted allegations that he had made up his mind to defer his studies to Oxford University before his press conference on Monday.

“If you check the schedule on when you can postpone your studies, the first week is orientation week and classes begin after that,” he said, explaining that classes officially begin between the first and second week of October.

In a press conference on Monday, Syed Saddiq claimed that he and his family were being harassed and he had been offered RM5mil to leave the country.

He had also announced that he would be deferring his studies at Oxford University for the upcoming academic year.
