Prove your claims before making police report, Syed Saddiq told

(The Star) – A former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) vice-president wants Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to first prove his claim that he was offered money to leave the country before he lodges reports with the authorities.

Datuk Hamidah Osman (pic), who left the party last month after losing faith in the leadership, said she was convinced the Pribumi Youth chief would “hide behind the law” and not reveal the proof of his claims once he had made the reports.

She called on Syed Saddiq to be responsible and explain to the public and to those he had named when he made the claim.

On Monday, Syed Saddiq claimed he was offered RM5mil to leave the country and that his family was being harassed.

He also said he had decided to defer his Masters in Public Policy at Oxford University in Britain for the coming academic year.

On Tuesday, he claimed that he was being blackmailed but refused to disclose who was behind it or what he was being blackmailed for.

Syed Saddiq had said he would lodge a police report (today) on the matter and if necessary with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Hamidah questioned why Syed Saddiq waited months to highlight the claims.

“He said he was in talks with people allegedly from Umno last December who had made him several offers, including scholarships, but why only now he wants to lodge a police report?

“Why would he expose himself and his family to danger? Is he too scared to lodge a report but not afraid to make a live press conference from his Facebook?” Hamidah said in a statement on Wednesday.

“If it is true he was offered such large amount of money and scholarships, why didn’t he reveal the name of the individuals?” she said.
