MCA: Kit Siang’s praise for Syed Saddiq sends a wrong signal

Syed Saddiq’s move to turn down an offer to study at Oxford does not warrant a praise

(Berita Daily) – MCA Public Complaints and Services Bureau chief Jason Teoh Sew Hock today said Lim Kit Siang’s praise of PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq sends a wrong signal to young Malaysians.

He said this referring to Syed Saddiq’s move to turn down a scholarship offer worth about RM400,000 to study in Oxford University in order “to focus on this struggle for a better Malaysia”, which was praised by the DAP veteran earlier today.

“What kind of message does this send to our children?

“I would like to remind Lim Kit Siang that not all children in Malaysia are privileged enough to reject a scholarship, better yet one from Oxford, for any reason whatsoever. To many parents, education for their children is something they struggle very hard to provide for them.

“Let me remind Kit Siang that by praising this action, it tells our children to be reckless with their future for the sake of championing a political ideology or cause,” said Teoh in a statement.

He said Lim and all his supporters should be ashamed of advocating such a reckless move and even worse, to praise the fact that Syed publicised the matter by holding a press conference and cheapened the offer from Oxford.

“Syed’s antic was nothing but a case of cheap publicity that was lapped up by people especially netizens.

“His actions and the support by Lim Kit Siang also cheapened the real sacrifices by many people for the country who never had the chance to hold a press conference to brag about their achievements and announce a foolish and irresponsible decision.

“I hope Malaysians realise now that Lim Kit Siang does not care for the children of Malaysia by endorsing the actions of Syed,” he added.

Teoh also said Syed Saddiq intended to look noble but instead has made himself look like a vain privileged kid that has disregard for education and the examples he sets for children or anyone that looks up to him.

“Lim Kit Siang on the other hand has reiterated MCA’s opinion about him all this while: he will do anything to take over Putrajaya, from empowering PAS to a kingmaker status, forgiving his arch nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad and now to praising a fooling decision by an immature politician,” said Teoh, who is also Gelang Patah MCA chief.
