Remand extended for Warisan youth chief, two others

(The Star) – Parti Warisan youth chief Azis Jamman and two Umno division youth leaders, who are being held over alleged money-siphoning from rural development projects in Sabah, have had their remand extended by three days.

High Court senior assistant registrar Izat Abd Rahim allowed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) application for Azis as well as Tenom Umno Youth chief Jamawi Jaafar and his Tawau counterpart Ariffin Kassim to be held until Oct 17.

Izat also allowed for a businessman who was arrested in connection with the graft probe to be released.

The four men were brought to the Kota Kinabalu court complex here at about 10am.

Arrifin was represented by Hamid Ismail while Edward Paul acted for the businessman.

The four were among seven people detained in connection with a graft probe into the alleged skimming of up to RM1.5bil in federal project allocations in Sabah through the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

The money was allegedly siphoned from RM7.5bil worth of project funds.
