Umno made significant gains among Chinese Facebook users, report says
(MMO) – Umno has made significant gains in all states among Chinese speaking Facebook users this year, according to research outfit Politweet in a report.
Between May to July 2017, Umno grew its Chinese speaking base by 400,000 users nationwide, a significant 222 per cent increase, which has dwarfed any increase made by DAP, PAS, and PKR among Chinese speakers in the same period.
DAP grew its base by 22 per cent and PKR grew its base by 12 per cent, while PAS lost over 5 per cent of its Chinese base as it becomes increasingly focused on Islamic issues while not being in the main opposition bloc.
Umno’s biggest gains according to the report was in Sabah and Sarawak, where it made a 471 per cent and 663 per cent gain respectively.
In Peninsular Malaysia, Umno gained the most in Johor and Penang, gaining 265 per cent and 238 per cent respectively.
Umno’s Chinese speaking base in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, which is often seen as the Opposition’s strongest base, also grew by 179 per cent in the same period.
