Pictures of Warisan leaders on business class flight go viral

(The Star) – A Facebook post of Parti Warisan Sabah youth leader Datuk Azis Jamman flying on business class is creating a stir among netizens.

Netizens are asking why public donations were sought for party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s bail while other leaders travelled in business class.

Azis, on his Facebook page, had posted a picture of him sitting with Warisan vice president Datuk Peter Anthony in the Kuala Lumpur-bound plane’s business class section on their way to attend a Parliament sitting where Shafie was supposed to deliver a speech.

Netizens also shared a picture of Anthony walking with party members, carrying a donation box and asking the public to contribute.

User Shaiful Tani posted on Azis’ Facebook page, telling him that they should improve the party’s image by flying in economy class instead as it could help them bond with other “ordinary” aircraft passengers.

“This is a little reprimand from me,” said Shaiful in his post.

Others Facebook users defended the leaders, saying that they might not have been able to get economy class tickets because of the last-minute booking.

Warisan had raised some RM112,000 in donations from the public in anticipation of a high bail for Shafie, who was released on Friday (Oct 27), after eight days in remand.

He was held in connection with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency’s (MACC) probe into alleged skimming from rural projects worth RM1.5bil between 2009 and 2015.

Shafie was among 13 people, including Aziz and Anthony, who were arrested and released on bail pending further investigations by the MACC.
