Assemblyman mystified by ‘missing’ RM2.95B from Selangor financial record

(NST) – Federal allocations to Selangor amounting to RM2.95 billion is allegedly missing from state government’s financial record, the state assembly heard today.

Datuk Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan (BN-Batang Kali) said this was an accumulated amount which had been channelled under the Malaysian Road Record Information System (Marris) for road repairs in the state since 2012.

“Under the Federal Constitution, a statement of estimated expenditure and amount the state government received (for Marris) must be tabled in the assembly.

“However, the amount (in Selangor Estimated Expenditure books) from 2012 to 2017 was stated as nil.

“I urge menteri besar to explain if this is this a misuse of Marris’ allocations?

“We are worried that if there is an abuse, it will become rampant if it is not addressed,” he said.

Nadzari said Selangor received about RM500 million annually under Marris as the allocation was compulsory payment under the Federal Consitution.

Speaking to reporters later, he said the public should be concerned of where the RM2.95 billion had been used as there was no record.

He said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali must explain to the House on the whereabouts of the allocation and why it was not reflected in the state official document.

Nadzari said this issue also raised the question on whether the state budgets from 2012 to 2017 violated Sections 14 and 15 of the Schedule 8 of the Federal Constitution.
