6 ordered to answer charge for Kevin Morais’ murder

(FMT) – Six men, including a pathologist, have been ordered to enter their defence on a charge of murdering deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Anthony Kevin Morais two years ago.

High Court judge Azman Abdullah said the prosecution had established a prima facie case against all the accused.

“After giving maximum evaluation to the prosecution’s case and guided by legal precedents, I order the accused to enter their defence,” Justice Azman said in a packed courtroom.

Some in the public gallery were seen silently applauding when the judge delivered the ruling.

Azman fixed Jan 18 for the defence to present their case.

The six are Col Dr R Kunaseegaran, 54, R Dinishwaran, 25, A K Thinesh Kumar, 24, M Vishwanath, 27, S Nimalan, 24, and S Ravi Chandaran, 46.

They are accused under Section 302 of the Penal Code of committing the offence between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015, along the road between Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul and No 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya.

They face the death sentence if found guilty.

DPP Mohd Saiful Edris Zainuddin led the prosecution while Kunaseegaran was represented by counsel N Sivananthan and Geethan Ram Vincent.

Vishwanath, Nimalan and Ravi Chandaran were represented by counsel V Rajehgopal while Dinishwaran and Thinesh Kumar was defended by M Manoharan.

The prosecution called 70 witnesses to testify over 57 days.

Morais was reported missing on Sept 4, 2015. He was seen leaving his apartment at Menara Duta here in a Proton Perdana with the registration number WA6264Q.

His body was later found inside a drum filled with concrete at Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya, on Sept 16, 2015.
