Court strikes out Zaid’s suit against Najib, 1MDB

(The Star) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and two others have succeeded in striking out a suit by former cabinet minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim for the return of monies.

High Court Judicial Commissioner Rohani Ismail struck out the suit after allowing Najib, 1MDB, the Government and Najib’s stepson Riza Shariz Abdul Aziz’s application on Thursday.

JC Rohani made the order on the grounds that Zaid had no locus standi, there was no reasonable cause of action and that the suit was frivolous, vexatious and an abuse of the court process.

She granted the application with RM4,000 in cost to be paid by Zaid to each of the defendants.

The court also struck out a suit by Zaid, after he withdrew it, against a bank to inspect five accounts belonging to the Prime Minister and disclose sources of the funds in relation to SRC International Sdn Bhd and the RM2.6bil donation issue.

JC Rohani ordered for RM2,000 in cost to be paid to AmBank Islamic Bhd which was named as the sole respondent in his lawsuit.
