‘Lim Kit Siang as PM is detrimental to country’ – Liow
(NST) – Lim Kit Siang’s ascension as prime minister or the government’s top leader if the opposition wins the next general election, will only lead to a divided nation.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said that the DAP adviser was an untrustworthy leader and did not possess qualities as a prime minister.
He said that Lim was only interested in upholding a personal agenda and that it had been his intention to topple the government in a quest to gain power.
“Only he will know whether he has ambitions to become prime minister or deputy prime minister. But we know that he is not a leader who can be trusted.
“He is devoid of any values and he has no principles. In the past, he told the people to support Pas, but when that party did not follow his ways, he switched to using Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“These things are done for his personal gain. He is willing to sacrifice his own principles and his party’s vision, which constantly changes. He is very good at manipulating any situation and making U-turns for his own gain.
“Lim’s hope of becoming the country’s top leader if the opposition wins the 14th general election will lead to disunity. It will be detrimental to the community and country,” said Liow after a gathering with the community at a restaurant in Paloh near here today.
Also present were MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
On Friday, Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang was reported as saying that the people should reject the DAP leader who harboured ambitions to become prime minister.
Hadi had said DAP went not only against the fact that Islam is the official religion of the federation but also because the party had failed to establish a clean government in Penang.
The issue of Lim aspiring to become prime minister resurfaced earlier this month when former DAP lawmaker Tan Beng Huat said there were talks within the party about Lim coveting for the post, although the latter had consistently refuted such claims.
