Pakatan to announce PM candidate next month ‘hopefully’
(Berita Daily) – Pakatan Harapan will announce its choice of prime minister next month.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the DAP’s first choice has always been PKR’s Anwar Ibrahim, should the Opposition coalition take over the federal government.
“Our choice is Anwar, but as he is in jail we will have to pick someone else.
“It will be announced next month,” he said at a press conference held at Komtar, although he later qualified this with “hopefully”.
Guan Eng, who is DAP secretary-general, said no party leader has ever asked for the post of prime minister, reported The Star.
“We have never asked for the post,” he said, referring to reports that DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, his father, was vying for the post.
At a recent two-day Pakatan retreat, the Opposition coalition had proposed Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister and Anwar’s wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as his deputy, should it win the next general election.
It was also reported that the choice was agreed to by the coalition’s “G5”, comprising Pakatan chairman Mahathir, president Wan Azizah, and deputy presidents Muhyiddin Yassin, Guan Eng and Mohamed Sabu.
The decision has met with some resistance by members of the coalition.
