‘Weird’ Mahathir will do a lot of unusual things prior to GE14, says PAS

Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah believes that the former prime minister will do whatever he can to gain support

(Berita Daily) – Terming Dr Mahathir Mohamad as weird, PAS today predicted that the former prime minister will do whatever he thinks is necessary to gain support prior to the the 14th general election (GE14), to be called within the next eight months.

PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah says the latest was Mahathir’s call for the release of Anwar Ibrahim, who is in jail over a sodomy conviction.

He said the latest act of political desperation by Mahathir clearly showed that the Opposition, especially the former premier, has run out of ideas on how to gain support of the Malaysian electorate.

Labelling Mahathir as a “weird person”, Amar said Malaysians, however, would not be fooled by his ploys.

“For me, all this is (a sign of Mahathir’s) political desperation and it looks like he has no idea what to do (politically) to garner support from the public.

“Therefore, I believe he will do whatever he think is necessary to gain support,” he told reporters, after delivering a ceramah in Lundang last night, the New Straits Times reported.

Amar believed Mahathir will do a lot of unusual things in the days leading up to the coming 14th General Election (GE14).

On DAP’s accusation that PAS would elect its president Abdul Hadi Awang as prime minister should they win in the GE14, Amar said that DAP is trying to deflect attention from its own failings.

“DAP is so keen to take over the country and is willing to make accusation against PAS.

“For PAS, it would be difficult for the country’s political future if a non-Muslim is selected as Prime Minister, and it also might not be accepted by society,” he added.
