Opposition blasted for trying to link PM to Felda land scandal
(NST) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak must not be dragged into the Felda land ownership transfer scandal, Umno Youth executive committee member Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin said on Tuesday.
He explained that Felda, specifically its subsidiary Felda Global Ventures Holding Sdn Bhd (FGV), is an agency with its own administrative structure and is capable of carrying out its responsibilities.
“It is not right to involve the Prime Minister because FGV is a corporatised body that has its own board of directors, chief executive officer and general manager.
“All those appointed are capable, and they even have a chairman,” Nazir added.
He was commenting on continued efforts by opposition-linked parties to link Najib to the scandal.
Nazir said an agency which practices good governance usually turns to its chief executive officer, board of directors and chairman to resolve issues when such matters arise.
“We hope that the people realise this, and see that the opposition will always try to link the Prime Minister to any scandal and blame him for everything. They will even try to blame him for thunderstorms and floods.
“We have to be fair and evaluate the matter and not just blame the Prime Minister,” he added.
Nazir said several online news portals had quoted opposition leaders who linked Najib to the scandal, even though it is an internal Felda issue.
