Gerakan president: Will Mahathir make way for Anwar?
Mah Siew Keong likens the bickering in Pakatan Harapan over their prime minister candidate to TVB family dramas
(Berita Daily) – Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong today questioned whether Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad would be willing to handover power to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in the event the opposition coalition formed the next federal government.
“Is it possible for Dr Mahathir to relinquish power to Anwar when he wants his son Mukhriz to hold the top post?” Mah queried.
He said this while delivering his speech at the MCA-Gerakan Stronger Together rally which was held at San Choon Hall in Wisma MCA this morning.
Pakatan is scheduled to name their prime minister candidate tomorrow and chances are Mahathir would be named as the interim prime minister.
Pakatan component parties aside from PKR have agreed for Mahathir to be named as interim prime minister.
PKR is only agreeable to Mahathir if the former premier agrees on three conditions: to get Anwar out of prison within the first six months of the new administration, allow PKR to contest the majority of the seats and implement reforms.
Mah also likened the bickering over Pakatan’s PM candidate to Hong Kong’s TVB dramas.
“Their constant infighting is like the family dramas on Hong Kong’s TVB channel where everyone have their own nominees.
“Need I remind them that the post of prime minister is not something to toy around as it involves the interest and well being of Malaysia. There will be no political stability and capital flight will ensue if that day turns into a reality. I pray that will never happen.”
A total of 2,000 delegates from both parties attended the rally.
On another note Mah assured MCA that his party members who are found to have sabotaged MCA’s chances in the upcoming general election would face disciplinary action.
“There are those thinking that when MCA gets one more position, Gerakan loses one. It is the wrong thinking,” he added.
“I can guarantee that the past resentments will be put aside while we work together to face the 14th general election.
“I announce here that all Gerakan members will support every MCA candidate, to make sure they win in the next general election,” he said.
On working together to improve the social standing and livelihood of the Chinese community, Mah said both parties were drafting a comprehensive and elaborate action plan covering economy, education, commerce and policy.
