Najib debunks Opposition’s bankruptcy claims

(The Star) – A government that is bankrupt will not be able to continue bringing development to the country, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister said claims of bankruptcy by the Opposition are totally the opposite of what the government was doing, which is to continue delivering its promises.

Najib, who was on a two-day visit to Sabah, said if the Opposition’s allegations were true, he could not have announced fresh allocations for the state.

“Can a bankrupt government issue bonuses to civil servants, allocate billions to build news schools and repair old ones just in Sabah?

“Can a bankrupt government record growth of 6.2% for the third quarter of 2017 and be given A rating for financial management?

“Please do not believe the Opposition. All they are trying to do is to get the people to be suspicious and hate the government,” he said when opening the RM34mil SMK Bandau here Friday.

The Prime Minister said that while politics is important, it should not be above and beyond the interests of the nation and its people.

“Politics and the general election aside, it is also our responsibility to prepare the younger generation so that they can tackle the challenges of the future,” he said.

Earlier when opening the new clinic in Nabawan, the Prime Minister urged the people not to make rash decision in choosing their government.

“It is not difficult to change a government but once you make the wrong choice, the country can go down,” he said in his speech during the event.

Najib said political stability, peace and harmony achieved today under the current government, should be preserved.

“A country cannot develop if there is instability,” he added.
