Zahid: Azmin knows he will lose in Gombak

The deputy prime minister says the Selangor menteri besar has many problems in his current parliamentary constituency.

(FMT) – Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali’s intention to contest in the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat is because the Gombak MP knows he might be defeated in the forthcoming 14th general election (GE14), said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The deputy prime minister said Azmin sought to contest elsewhere in the GE14 because the seat he held was currently plagued with many problems, which were a cause of grievances to the residents.

“Perhaps that person (Azmin) feels that he will face defeat in his current seat so he wants to try his luck in another place. I hope before moving elsewhere, please improve the services, especially in terms of basic facilities for the voters he represents.

“I am aware, he (Azmin) is only fooling around. In politics you cannot fool around,” he told reporters after opening the 1Malaysia internet centres of Kampung Teluk Buluh, Kampung Selekoh and Bagan Datuk town here today.

However, Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk MP, said he and Prime Minister Najib Razak welcomed any individual wishing to contest either in Bagan Datuk or in Pekan, Pahang.

Yesterday, the Selangor menteri besar was quoted in the local newspapers as saying he was considering contesting in the Bagan Datuk parliamentary constituency, currently being held by Zahid.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, said, however, the matter depended on the decision of the leadership.

In the last GE13, Zahid won the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat with a majority of 2,108 votes.
