Activist lodges report against Pakatan supporters for threats, sexual harassment
(Malay Mail Online) – An #UndiRosak proponent filed a police complaint today against Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters for threatening and sexually harassing her on social media.
Maryam Lee said in her police report sighted by Malay Mail that she was cyberbullied by political supporters, after a video recording of a forum last month, where she advocated spoiling votes in the 14th general election, was uploaded onto a Facebook page.
“I am a Malaysian citizen who merely expressed her opinions in a forum, but I was threatened and humiliated by members of the public in an attempt to suppress my right to free speech.
“I feel that my safety is under threat,” Maryam said in her report lodged at the Hulu Kelang police station.
The 25-year-old activist shared with Malay Mail a screenshot of a profanity-laced Facebook message from a man who told her that he would “kill you and all your family” and “cut your face”.
She also highlighted Facebook posts from other people, who accused her and the #UndiRosak movement of being in cahoots with Umno, that superimposed her face onto naked bodies and called her derogatory names.
Maryam complained that an activist with Bersih 2.0, a movement for free and fair elections, had cyberbullied her, accusing her on Facebook of “committing treason to the motherland” and asking how much money she had been paid by Barisan Nasional (BN) to sabotage PH.
“The police only wants to pursue the physical/ death threats. Cyberbullying and online sexual harassment don’t qualify for criminal investigation,” she told Malay Mail.
