Not a single sen from Robert Kuok, says Kit Siang
(MMO) – DAP parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang denied today receiving any funding from Malaysian billionaire Tan Sri Robert Kuok throughout his 53 years in politics.
The 77-year-old Gelang Patah MP said the allegation that he was financed by the 94-year-old Hong Kong-based tycoon, once dubbed Malaysia’s “Sugar Baron”, to topple the government is the latest example of “fake news” he has had to grapple with.
“The latest fake news is that I have received astronomical donations from tycoon Robert Kuok through his nephew, James Kuok. I have not received a single sen from Robert in my 53 years in politics, whether through James or anyone else.
“In recent years, the false allegations made against me as anti-Malay, anti-Islam, communist, agent of foreign powers, has increased by leaps and bounds to unprecedented levels,” he added in a statement.
Lim’s denial follows an allegation by controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin who claimed that the DAP leader was being financed by the elder Kuok through the latter’s nephew as proxy.
The younger Kuok had also recently issued a statement denying the allegation, saying he has no financial relations with the DAP.
Lim added that many other tales have been spun in an attempt by the ruling Barisan Nasional to discredit him in the run-up to the 14th general elections, including claims he was paid billions of ringgit from Israeli sources and that he got RM1 billion from former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The general elections must be called by August.
