What are the terms for PAS to join Pakatan?

Nurul says they have been trying to persuade PAS to become a member of Pakatan Harapan. But Nurul never revealed what are the terms being offered to PAS if they agree to join Pakatan Harapan. Nurul should announce the terms being offered to PAS for them to join Pakatan Harapan. Then we can judge whether PAS is being unreasonable or not for not joining Pakatan Harapan.

According to Nurul Izzah Anwar, Pakatan Harapan has tried everything possible to persuade PAS to join Pakatan Harapan to face the coming general election expected any time soon (READ MORE HERE).

Nurul’s statement is weird because the reason Pakatan Rakyat was closed down and Pakatan Harapan was formed was so that PAS could be kicked out of the opposition coalition. If they still want PAS in the coalition then why close down Pakatan Rakyat? Just keep Pakatan Rakyat since PAS was already in that coalition?

It does not make sense to close down Pakatan Rakyat so that PAS could be kicked out, and then go and form a new coalition called Pakatan Harapan, and then try to persuade PAS to join the new coalition. What is the logic or rationale in doing that?

If you were to read the news reports over the last three years since 2015 (SEE BELOW), you can see that it was not PAS that resigned from or left Pakatan Rakyat but it was DAP that made a unilateral decision to sack PAS from the opposition coalition. Even Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail admitted that it was DAP that decided to sack PAS and it was done without the consensus of PKR.

One question that needs to be asked is, when Nurul says they have been trying to persuade PAS to join Pakatan Harapan, is this PKR’s sole decision or is this with the approval or endorsement of DAP and PAN? We know for a fact that DAP and PAN do not want PAS in Pakatan Harapan. So, what do DAP and PAN have to say about PKR’s move to persuade PAS to join Pakatan Harapan?

And if DAP agrees with PKR’s move to persuade PAS to join Pakatan Harapan, what are they going to tell the Chinese voters? DAP says they oppose Sharia laws and the Sharia Amendment Bill, also known as RUU355. But now DAP wants PAS in Pakatan Harapan. How does DAP explain this to the Chinese voters?

If DAP can now accept PAS and its RUU355, that would mean the reason PAS was kicked out of the opposition coalition was because they supported Azmin Ali as the new Selangor Menteri Besar to replace Khalid Ibrahim, instead of Wan Azizah, and that this has nothing to do with Islam or Sharia laws.

Nurul’s statement today makes what is already murky even murkier. Many suspected that they kicked PAS out from the opposition coalition because of the Selangor Menteri Besar issue and not because of Islam or RUU355. After all, the Sharia Amendment Bill was tabled in the Kelantan State Assembly in 1993 while Pakatan Rakyat was formed 15 years later in 2008. So how could the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat in 2015 be because of a 1993 matter?

Anyway, assuming PAS does agree to join Pakatan Harapan, what are the terms? PAS has its eyes on a certain number of seats. Will PKR, DAP, PPBM and PAN agree to those seats? PAS may also want to use its own bulan logo to contest the general election instead of the Pakatan Harapan common logo. Will PKR, DAP, PPBM and PAN agree to that?

PAS will never agree for PAN to also be given seats to contest the general election because PAS views PAN as a traitor to both the party and Islam. Will PKR, DAP, PPBM and PAN agree that PAN stay out and not contest any seats in the general election?

Pakatan Harapan’s dream of taking over Putrajaya in the 14th General Election (GE14) is dissipating without the support of PAS voters since the party is no longer with the opposition pact. Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said the success of DAP and PKR in 2008 and 2013 general elections was because of PAS’ support when it joined the Pakatan Rakyat.
