Did DAP Forget To Mention Their Concerns Were Saved With 1MDB’s Help?

“Now DAP are more concerned about 1MDB’s RM30bil debt (debt, not loss) but never mentioned the RM19bil EVERY YEAR saved with 1MDB help.”

(Malaysian Digest) – DAP seems to have a problem with 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and the government carrying its rationalisation plans to clear 1MDB’s outstanding debts – continuously attacking and demanding responses to questions that have already been answered.

Recently, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang went to the extent of emailing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak requesting to meet him to clarify the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) claims of clearing the premier of any wrongdoing in the 1MDB scandal.

The Malaysian Insight reported the Gelang Patah MP saying if Najib does not respond he will hold a nationwide forum in each state on whether the prime minister has been cleared in the PAC report.

Last week the DAP veteran had also filed a motion for the House to reject the PAC report and demanded for more comprehensive investigations to be carried out.

While DAP is creating a hoo-ha over 1MDB affairs, political analyst Lim Sian See points out how once upon a time, “DAP used to say Malaysia loses RM19 billion per year due to the lop-sided independent power producers (IPPs). That is EVERY year lose RM19bil.

“Now DAP never talk about this as 1MDB have solved this lop-sided IPPs.”

In The Malaysian Insider’s article dated May 2011 which Lim shared on his blog, DAP expressed that the government should cut billion-ringgit subsidies for IPPs rather than burden the people with subsidy cuts on essential items.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng stated in the report, by removing gas subsidies worth RM19 billion for IPPs and commercial power sectors, tens of billions of ringgit can be saved annually.

“Why should the masses and the ordinary 27 million Malaysians be made to bear these price rises when the few big corporate giants in the IPPs do not suffer a single cent in gas subsidies cuts?” the younger Lim said then.

This was also concurred by DAP publicity chief Tony Pua who similarly said the government must restructure “unfair contracts with concessionaires such as the IPPs” otherwise it proves that the government “does not prioritise the interest of the people ahead of its profitable cronies.”

Though conveniently after their concerns have been taken care of with the help of 1MDB, DAP has chosen to eliminate this fact – instead raised senseless questions.

To this, the political analyst went on to state, “Now DAP are more concerned about 1MDB’s RM30bil debt (debt, not loss) but never mentioned the RM19bil EVERY YEAR saved with 1MDB help.”

Last week The Star reported 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda revealed the company’s assets currently stood at RM43bil, much higher than its total debt of RM31bil.

“It should be understood that the value of the assets will continue increasing from time to time in view of the majority of it being in the property sector.

“The company assets for now is more than enough to pay off the company’s debt,” he said.
