Rafidah backs Dr M-Pakatan campaign

(FMT) – Former minister Rafidah Aziz has openly backed Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s campaign at the next polls to unseat the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“The collective effort led by Mahathir, to me, is the only credible way to stop the rot. The different parties have set aside their differences, even their party logos, to unite for their common cause,” she was quoted as saying.

It is Rafidah’s clearest yet statement of support for Mahathir, in the wake of a series of Facebook postings critical of the Najib administration.

Rafidah, who served as the international trade and industry minister under Mahathir and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, also lauded the Pakatan Harapan coalition, the four party-coalition which Mahathir’s PPBM is a part of.

“They are multiracial, as Malaysians, and working for the good and interests of Malaysians,” said the former Umno Wanita chief.

She however refused to say whether she would emulate Mahathir to quit Umno, or to join PPBM.

Rafidah has been on a warpath with several ministers, including following her recent post alleging that Najib had been behind a move to lease out thousands of hectares of land belonging to the army and the Ministry of Defence to a private company.

Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has rejected the claim, saying it was a “blatant lie”.
