Will Kit Siang change seats again?

DAP’s Lim Kit Siang has served as an MP in five states since winning his first parliamentary seat in 1969

(FMT) – DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has remained tightlipped on whether he will stay put in Johor or contest elsewhere in the coming election (GE14).

“Wait for the announcement,” he told reporters after a talk organised by Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Bukit Baru here last night.

Lim, 77, won his first parliamentary seat, Bandar Melaka, in the third general election in 1969. Since then, he has served as MP in five states. 

He said defending his Gelang Patah parliamentary seat in Johor was out of the question as the constituency no longer existed.

He said Gelang Patah was redefined as the Iskandar Puteri parliamentary constituency following the latest electoral boundary redelineation.

In GE13, Lim defeated then-Johor menteri besar Abdul Ghani Othman for the Gelang Patah seat with a majority of 14,762 votes.

The veteran politician was MP for Ipoh Timur in Perak for two terms and Tanjong in Penang for three terms.

He also represented Kota Melaka here for two terms and Petaling in Selangor for one term.

Early last month, Gelang Patah Umno division chief Mohammad Khairi A Malik was reported to have issued a challenge to Lim to defend the seat in GE14 after claiming that “voters in the constituency had been asking where their MP has been all this while”.
