Cooperation between Anwar, Tun M mere rhetoric: Hishammuddin
(The Sun Daily) – Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein described the purported cooperation between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as mere rhetoric and something that is not likely to happen.
He said if the cooperation was real, it should have been in place a long time ago without the need for involving other opposition parties including DAP.
“We, in Umno have witnessed their (Tun Mahathir and Anwar) failed cooperation, not to mention when they forge cooperation outside (of Umno). So, why we need to be afraid?
“At that time, they were in the Umno ark as president and deputy president, prime minister and deputy prime minister and even then we could not see their cooperation,” he told reporters after the Johor Felcra Bhd (FELCRA) with Leaders programme at Kampung Melayu Batu 4, Paloh, Kluang here today.
He was commenting on a statement by the former opposition leader (Anwar) who said that Umno was so afraid of the Dr Mahathir and Anwar alliance.
Hishammuddin, who is also Defence Minister, said he was confident that the people would be able to judge for themselves the statement made by Anwar.
Meanwhile, he said his ministry welcomed the proposal by FELCRA to make Paloh in Sembrong as one of the country’s food hubs.
According to him, food safety was among the key issues that had become a concern of the Defence Ministry to ensure sufficient food supply in the future.
FELCRA also suggested that military personnel due to retire take part in its Agricultural Scheme programme.
