From DAP-led Pakatan to DAP-controlled PKR
Anyway, now Wan Azizah is the Top Dog of the opposition pact and the opposition pact is now called PKR and not PH. The opposition pact has to be seen as PKR and not DAP because they need a Malay face and Wan Azizah is that Malay face. Furthermore, in 2014 Wan Azizah had already said she is prepared to be a puppet-on-a-string and that is precisely what DAP needs, a puppet-on-a-string.
THE CORRIDORS OF POWER
Raja Petra Kamarudin
Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat. (Sun Tzu: 545-470 BC)
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak has maintained an even keel and has been on the same course these last three years — and has been gaining ground with each and every move — while Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been zig-zagging and moving forward and backward whenever each of his moves fail.
Najib plans and then moves. Mahathir moves and then re-plans. And that is why while Najib has just one plan, Mahathir has Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, and so on until Plan Z. And Mahathir himself admits this when he said if Plan A fails he will come out with Plan B.
If you fail to plan you plan to fail. And Mahathir moves like a bull in a china shop. While Mahathir had the illusion that he was in control of the ball, in reality Lim Kit Siang and DAP are the ones deciding how the game is played. And that is why from a DAP-led Pakatan Harapan, the opposition pact has been transformed into a DAP-controlled PKR.
GE14 is a Malay fight with PKR as DAP’s proxy and Wan Azizah their puppet
Mahathir appears to not realise he was merely a convenient tool for the opposition pact to use to hit Najib, Umno and Barisan Nasional. And now that the so-called ‘Malay Tsunami’ cannot happen after all, they no longer need Mahathir. Hell, even Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said a Commission may be set up to investigate Mahathir if the opposition pact comes to power (READ HERE: Wan Azizah not ruling out possible Commission to investigate Mahathir if Opposition wins GE14).
Mahathir thought he had a plan and knew what he was doing. And just because Najib kept silent and did not utter a single word Mahathir interpreted that as Najib conceding defeat. Mahathir forgot the Malay saying, diam-diam ubi berisi. Najib was merely doing what the Malays would call ulur tali. The English will say giving you the rope to hang yourself.
Of course, there were times when Najib also fired some shots. But they were well-calculated and well-aimed shots, not like Mahathir’s random and blind shots. And Najib knew which were the ‘nerve centres’ to hit. You hit that ‘nerve centre’ and Mahathir would melenting and melatah.
The 13 member parties of the legally-registered Barisan Nasional can display their flags alongside the BN flag while the opposition pact can legally only fly the PKR flag
The most interesting move that Najib made was on 3rd December 2016 during the Umno annual assembly when he revealed that the 14th General Election or GE14 was going to be between an Umno-led Barisan Nasional and a DAP-led Pakatan Harapan. This sent Kit Siang into panic and he called Mahathir that same night to invite him to DAP’s convention the following day.
But then they had earlier made a public announcement that Mahathir was NOT invited to DAP’s convention of 4th December 2016. And now, just hours before the event, they hurriedly phone Mahathir to invite him to attend.
Mahathir knew that DAP needed him more than he needs DAP. So, he was not about to sell himself cheap. If Kit Siang wants him to attend DAP’s convention in a few hours’ time, then they will have to pay the price. And that price is PPBM must be allowed to join Pakatan Harapan and he must be appointed Pakatan Harapan’s Chairman.
Mahathir held Kit Siang to ransom but now DAP is free of PPBM and Mahathir
Mahathir then announced that PPBM was joining Pakatan Harapan and that he is the ‘Top Dog’ of Pakatan Harapan. It was just like Napoleon crowning himself Emperor of France because the Pope refused to do it. So, since Pope Kit Siang refused to crown Mahathir the Top Dog, Mahathir crowned himself Top Dog.
So now Kit Siang was reluctantly stuck with PPBM as a member of Pakatan Harapan and Mahathir as the Top Dog of Pakatan Harapan.
They know the Chinese would not be able to accept that but it was the price they had to pay to deflect Najib’s announcement that GE14 is a contest between the Umno-led Barisan Nasional and the DAP-led Pakatan Harapan. With the ‘Umno-clone’, PPBM, in Pakatan Harapan, and Mahathir as Pakatan Harapan’s Chairman, how can they still say Pakatan Harapan is DAP-led?
And DAP will try to explain to the Chinese later why DAP allowed PPBM into Pakatan Harapan and made Mahathir the Taiko on top of that.
With Mahathir out of the picture there are only three candidates for Prime Minister
When PPBM got deregistered, Kit Siang actually saw that as a huge blessing and a favour that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) was doing for DAP. Now they can rid themselves of PPBM (since it no longer exists) and at the same time Mahathir can no longer be the Top Dog of Pakatan Harapan (since Pakatan Harapan, too, is not going to exist after all).
They had earlier made it very clear they need Mahathir for only two things. One: to attack Najib and try to bring him down (which failed to happen). Two: to bring in the Malay votes and trigger a Malay Tsunami (which also failed to happen). So why do they still need Mahathir?
Now, with PPBM out of the picture and with Mahathir no longer Chairman of the non-existent Pakatan Harapan, they can wash their hands of what had become baggage to the opposition pact.
DAP used to say a vote for PAS is a vote for DAP and now they are telling the Chinese a vote for PKR is a vote for DAP
Mahathir then mooted Plan B, which he said he will launch if Plan A (the registration of PPBM and Pakatan Harapan) fails. And Plan B is all the candidates of the opposition pact would contest GE14 under PKR — DAP and PAN candidates included.
Kit Siang very quickly and very happily agreed to Plan B. It solved one major problem of how to explain to the Chinese why the Umno-clone party was in Pakatan Harapan and why Mahathir was Pakatan Harapan’s Top Dog. Mahathir himself has just proposed the solution and Kit Siang grabbed it quickly before Mahathir changed his mind.
One point to note is the fact that Mahathir even needed to announce he will launch Plan B if Plan A fails means he already knew that Pakatan Harapan may never get registered due to PPBM’s failure to comply with the RoS letter.
DAP can no longer use PAS so PKR has to be that new ‘Ali Baba’
Anyway, now Wan Azizah is the Top Dog of the opposition pact and the opposition pact is now called PKR and not PH. The opposition pact has to be seen as PKR and not DAP because they need a Malay face and Wan Azizah is that Malay face. Furthermore, in 2014 Wan Azizah had already said she is prepared to be a puppet-on-a-string and that is precisely what DAP needs, a puppet-on-a-string.
There is no way in hell DAP and PKR will want to make Mahathir the Prime Minister if the opposition pact wins GE14. In fact, Kit Siang and Wan Azizah both agree that if the opposition pact wins GE14, a commission must be set up to investigate Mahathir’s crimes when he was Prime Minister.
So what will they do to Mahathir if the opposition pact wins GE14? Will they reward Mahathir for helping the opposition pact march into Putrajaya? Or will Mahathir suffer the fate of that young boy in the story ‘Singapura dilanggar todak’?
