Kayveas flings Segambut back in Ku Nan’s face
(FMT) – The myPPP president, M Kayveas, has flung back at Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Tengku Adnan Mansor an offer by BN for Kayveas to contest the DAP stronghold of the Segambut parliamentary seat.
“Maybe Tengku Adnan should try and stand in Segambut, maybe he can win that seat,” Kayveas said in an audio recording obtained by FMT from the launch of the myPPP manifesto in Cameron Highlands.
Segambut has been held by DAP for two terms with an increased majority after Lim Lip Eng defeated BN’s Tan Kee Kwong.
Tengku Adnan has been MP for Putrajaya for three terms and served as minister for the federal territories.
Kayveas said Tengku Adnan, whom he called a close friend, had relayed the BN offer of Segambut in the Kuala Lumpur federal territory instead of Cameran Highlands which he had wanted.
MIC Youth chief Sivaarraj Chandran is believed to be the leading contender as BN candidate in Cameron Highlands, to stand against DAP and PSM.
Kayveas said he had worked on Cameron Highlands for the past four years after he “received the blessing of (Barisan Nasional chairman) Najib Razak” to do so.
“I have received a call from the BN sec gen (Tengku Adnan) who is a friend of mine. The call was to tell me he will give another seat to me and not Cameron Highlands. He offered me Segambut and asked me to consider.
“Of course I have rejected the offer.”
Kayveas said his friendship with Tengku Adnan remained, but his patience was wearing thin.
“If you do not want us (in BN), tell us nicely. Do not give us seats to lose and then say you have given us seats but you cannot win.
“He is a very close friend but as the sec-gen he has been very unfair when it came to seats (negotiation).
“We (myPPP) would have left in 2008 if it was not for Tengku Adnan’s persuasion. We stayed back because of him, thank you very much.
“The time has come for us to make a very important decision. We are staying here no matter what, with a seat or without a seat, that is the decision made so far.”
Earlier today, FMT reported that Kayveas had stated in a Facebook message: “Sadly and shockingly I was asked to consider moving to Segambut and my answer is a big no,” he said in a Facebook message to his supporters. BN should have offered that 4 years ago and I would have with your unwavering support and belief in me worked there with just as much as the efforts put in Cameron Highlands.”
Kayveas had stated his interest in contesting the seat under BN and started working in the seat after G Palanivel, who won the seat in the 2013 general election when he was the MIC president, stopped working there after being sacked from the party.
