Nurul Izzah moves to Permatang Pauh, Wan Azizah heads to Klang Valley

(MMO) – PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar will contest Permatang Pauh while her mother and PKR president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, will shift from there to a Klang Valley seat, a party official confirmed.

The Star reported PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as saying the party was adamant the Permatang Pauh candidate should be from PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s family as the Penang parliamentary seat, which has been in Anwar’s family since 1982, was a PKR fortress.

“An announcement will be made soon,” Saifuddin was quoted as saying.

He also reportedly said his party has several “safe” seats where the duo could also be moved, such as Pandan.

Penang PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden will also run in Permatang Pauh in the 14th general election.

Nurul Izzah is the incumbent Lembah Pantai MP, but PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil is expected to contest the seat.

Dr Wan Azizah, the incumbent Permatang Pauh MP, is also the incumbent Kajang assemblyman.

Anwar is still serving his prison sentence for sodomy and will only be released in June.

Saifuddin reportedly said he would run in the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary seat in Kedah and a state seat in Penang.

He declined to confirm which Penang state seat he would contest, only that it could be the Pantai Jerejak seat currently held by caretaker Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon.
