MyPPP may reconsider whether to remain in Barisan
(The Star) – The party’s Supreme Council has today decided to unanimously stay on with BN… however the decision may be reconsidered
MyPPP said it may reconsider whether to remain in Barisan Nasional after a meeting with the coalition’s chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas (pic) said the party wanted the opportunity to contest the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat, where it had been working for several years.
“The party’s Supreme Council has today decided to unanimously stay on with BN… however the decision may be reconsidered after the final meeting with the BN chairman and party president, scheduled before the finalisation of all seat allocations,” he told reporters after the party had a meeting on the matter at its headquarters on Tuesday (April 17).
There was a long deliberation, a difficult decision but it is a unanimous decision, he added.
When asked if he would consider contesting as an independent, Kayveas said that he felt that they had a better chance of winning the seat with Barisan than any other candidate.
“To consider anything else won’t be correct,” he said.
Although the Segambut seat was offered to them, Kayveas said he had made a final decision and that he would not be contesting there.
He said that if there was an offer for anyone else in the party to contest the seat, it was open for them.
Bernama reported MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam as saying that it’s “almost certain” the party will defend the Cameron Highlands seat in GE14.
Dr Subramaniam said the list of MIC candidates has been finalised and was just waiting for the official announcement from Najib.
