Umno and PAS are okay without MCA and Gerakan
A Chinese community leader who signed off as “Yan Qi” shared his true words in a clan group, hoping that the group and Chinese community would encourage each other in their endeavours.
His message was circulated in the social media. The message revealed the actual plight of Malaysian Chinese. He was blunt in saying Chinese are not grateful to MCA and Gerakan. He ticked off former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir and former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, including DAP which has joined them now.

I set up this group not to discuss politics in the group. I will answer all your questions here.
In the 2008 and 2013 elections, the Chinese were united in going against the Barisan Nasional (80% to 90%). This has resulted MCA and Gerakan which represent the Chinese suffered humiliating defeat. But Barisan Nasional remained as the ruling government. The Malay leaders are aware by now, in the coming election as long as Umno and PAS work together, even if Chinese do not support Barisan Nasional, they are fine and will continue to rule.
The question now lies with MCA and Gerakan but not Umno. If MCA and Gerakan were to suffer humiliating defeat again this time, and there are no return of Chinese votes, those in power would be Malays only.
Please think about this. What is going to be the outcome for Chinese with this kind of government? Even DAP were to win 100% in all Chinese constituencies they are still unable to rule. They merely hurt MCA and Gerakan only.
Reflecting history, when Tunku Abdul Rahman was the Prime Minister, he has implemented moderate policies to rule the nation and treated all races fairly. (Please refer to Memoirs of Robert Kuok). But Chinese were still not satisfied then, which led to MCA suffered humiliating defeat in the 1969 elections. The alliance government collapsed, MCA left the ruling government where 513 took place. In order to rule, Umno pulled the opposition over to form the Barisan Nasional. Two years later in order to safeguard the interest of Chinese, MCA had no choice but to re-join the Barisan Nasional. But their influence was no longer like before.
MCA’s defeat in 1969 had huge impact on the Chinese. We lost two important portfolios – Finance Minister and International Trade Minister. Umno took the opportunity to launch New Economic Policy then to balance the economic gap of all races. Many unfair policies started to be implemented then.
Both MCA and Gerakan were helpless. They could only use their limited support to negotiate and bargained with Umno leaders for whatever unfair treatment claimed by the Chinese today. We say we are not given fair treatment. There are also Malays who are unhappy with the government because they are of the view that the government has over-defended the Chinese.
Nevertheless, whether you like the Barisan Nasional policy or not, we have to acknowledge that for many years in the past, people have been living in harmony. The country is stable. Chinese have made sound progress in many sectors. This included economy, culture, Chinese education and others. We enjoy freedom of religion and freedom of speech in this country. The government respects people’s rights too. In many matters the government is also closing one eye. Most important is Chinese and Malays collaborate well and everyone one live in a harmonious manner.
I support MCA and Gerakan because I am Chinese and they are the political representatives of Chinese. If we feel that MCA and Gerakan do not deliver, as Chinese we should come forward. If we are not prepared to do that then at least give your support instead of opposing them. An English idiom reads: Either I lead or I follow or I get out of the path.
I support Barisan Nasional as it adopts a moderate path. You can oppose Barisan Nasional but do not insult MCA and Gerakan. Right from the beginning when MCA and Gerakan are formed they have been fighting for the rights of Chinese. But Chinese is never satisfied and ungrateful.
Don’t get carried away just because you have donated some money for Chinese schools, as if we manage the entire Chinese schools. To be honest, if Barisan Nasional is not moderate, MCA and Gerkan do not negotiate and fight for our vernacular education in the Cabinet; Chinese schools would have been closed by the Malays long time ago.
Today you can still continue to be anti-Barisan Nasional. No one can stop you. Just like economist Dr Hoo Ke Ping said one would have to bear the consequences. By supporting MCA and Gerakan at least we can maintain status quo. We still have someone to help us resolve some problems.
You can continue to support Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim. No one will say you are wrong. You must be clear that these two were the founders of suppressing Chinese economy and vernacular education when they were in power; as well as DAP, a political party which does not have principle. It can disregard everything, spread lies and collaborate with enemy in order to rule.
Whether you accept my explanation today, it is fine with me. I am not contesting. I am only thinking of putting in some effort to defend this country and maintain stability in the society.
