Businesswoman to be charged with misuse of computers

Nika Gee Siew Yee will face charges under the Computer Crimes Act in the Magistrate’s Court for allegedly accessing information in a computer without valid authorisation. If found guilty, Gee Siew Yee could face a fine of up to RM50,000, five years in jail, or both.

(FMT) – A businesswoman who was previously involved in a divorce case that made headlines will be brought before the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow to face criminal charges related to the misuse of computers.

Gee Siew Yee, who divorced former deputy public prosecutor Stanley Augustin two years ago, will face charges under Section 3 of the Computer Crime Act. This was confirmed today by her lawyer R Ramesh Sivakumar.

The section deals with unauthorised access into a computer to obtain information from the system.

Anyone found guilty under this section faces a maximum fine of RM50,000, a five-year jail sentence, or both.

Gee’s divorce entered the limelight two years ago when a statutory declaration, purportedly made by Augustin, claimed she had had an affair with a politician during their marriage. The lawyers representing both Gee and Augustin reportedly declined to comment on the allegation at the time.

Gee and Augustin were married on April 24, 2007, at the National Registration Department in Putrajaya. They divorced on Sept 6, 2016, after nine years of marriage.
