Ambiga raps PKR over its Selangor candidate list squabble
(The Star) – The “nonsense” in PKR is unforgivable, said former Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan.
“When the rakyat are doing everything in their power to overcome obstacles to ensure they can vote and to help in the election, this nonsense in PKR is unforgivable,” she said on her Twitter account on Monday (April 23).
Similar views were shared by constitutional lawyer Syahredzan Johan, who appealed to the party to sort out its differences.
“We are so close to the finish line, yet right now you are threatening to self-implode.
Please, please, please sort this out, do not let down the people’s palpable desire for change,” he tweeted.
The Star reported that tensions have risen between PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her deputy Datuk Seri Azmin Ali over the candidate list for Selangor.
Azmin had supposedly proposed eight names that were rejected by Dr Wan Azizah.
The incumbents said to have been dropped include MPs Tian Chua (Batu) and Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong (Wangsa Maju) among others.
Tian Chua, also PKR vice-president, in a press conference on Sunday (April 22) claimed that there were “forces” within the party that wanted to lobby for certain aligned candidates.
He urged party leaders to be careful not to drop or add in anyone just to accommodate lobbying from various factions.
