Kit Siang’s hidden hand neutralising Azmin Ali

Kit Siang and Wan Azizah have hammered out a deal on how to neutralise Azmin. Nurul Izzah will contest a state seat in Selangor (unless Azmin can block this from happening) and will be appointed the opposition pact’s new Selangor Menteri Besar to replace Azmin. Wan Azizah, as PKR’s President and hence the leader of the opposition pact, will become the Prime Minister. And as a reward for Kit Siang’s help, support and effort, DAP will decide on the choice of Deputy Prime Minister.

They say famous Hollywood actor Rock Hudson, who died from AIDS-related complications in 1985 at age 59, was gay and that everyone in Hollywood knew about it. But then no one outside the Hollywood inner circle was aware of this because it was a closely-guarded secret and only whispered within the corridors of power in Hollywood.

The same can be said about the relationship between PKR’s President, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and her Deputy cum Selangor Menteri Besar, Azmin Ali. For more than 20 years Wan Azizah and Azmin have never seen eye-to-eye. And when Azmin managed to displace Wan Azizah as the candidate for Selangor Menteri Besar in 2014, that more or less turned the retak into a belah, as the Malays would say.

It is now open warfare between Team Azmin and Team Azizah

But what used to be a closely-guarded secret and whispered only within the corridors of power in PKR is now already public knowledge. These three pieces published by The Star explains everything without the need for further explanation:

The long and short of it all is that Azmin is going to make a bid for the PKR Presidency during the party election that will be held later this year after GE14. Whether Azmin can successfully oust Wan Azizah would depend on whether he is still the Selangor Menteri Besar post-GE14 and whether his Team B or Kartel Azmin members are still holding key positions in the party and in the Selangor State Government.

Hence, if Wan Azizah wants to survive Azmin’s challenge, she has to neutralise him now, during GE14. Once GE14 is over, and if Azmin’s people are all still alive post-GE14, then Wan Azizah has only one place to go, which is down.

So, Wan Azizah is doing precisely what Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad did in 2016, which is to make a deal with Lim Kit Siang. It appears like every time Melayu nak bunuh Melayu they go and seek out ‘Uncle Lim’. Kit Siang is the expert on how to get rid of your internal political enemies. After all, he has had 50 years’ experience in doing just that with his internal political enemies and runs DAP like his personal kingdom.

There is currently a war going on in PKR as to whose candidates get to contest GE14. Wan Azizah is trying to get her candidates in while Azmin is also doing the same. And both lists are diametrically opposed to one another. If Azmin’s list gets in then Wan Azizah is doomed, and vice versa. And in the end Kit Siang will decide who gets to contest GE14 — Azmin’s people or Wan Azizah’s people.

Wan Azizah, of course, will be signing the Surat Watikah that authorises all the candidates from the opposition pact to contest GE14 under PKR’s logo — DAP’s, PPBM’s and PAN’s candidates included. But Wan Azizah herself is not preparing the Surat Watikah. The person preparing the Surat Watikah is Saifuddin Nasution, strategic adviser to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

So, only three people are working on the opposition pact’s candidates’ list — Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng and Saifuddin Nasution. Even Wan Azizah and Azmin are not involved, which is what is upsetting Azmin. And Wan Azizah and not Azmin will sign-off on the list. And if Azmin is not careful, GE14 is going to see the end of his political career. And he can perish the thought of challenging Wan Azizah for the party presidency.

Tony Pua has not been speaking to Azmin for more than a year

The whispers in Komtar is that if the opposition pact wins GE14 then Kit Siang will be the Deputy Prime Minister. For obvious reasons, while they talk about who will be the opposition pact’s Prime Minister if they win GE14 and form the federal government, the issue of the Deputy Prime Minister is not being discussed at this stage. It is too sensitive to tell the Malay voters that a Chinese will become the Deputy Prime Minister if the opposition pact wins GE14 and gets to form the federal government.

DAP’s Tony Pua has not been talking to Azmin for more than a year and he is another person bent on seeing Azmin ousted. Without DAP Selangor covering Azmin’s back, he will have little chance of surviving GE14. And Kit Siang’s hidden hand in lining up all the ducks for the kill means that the entire matter is out of Azmin’s hand. Ultimately, Azmin is on death row and the death sentence will be carried out by Kit Siang once Wan Azizah signs the Surat Watikah and Azmin’s people are sent into retirement.

There is no way Wan Azizah can agree to Mahathir becoming Prime Minister again

Azmin now realises that DAP, with Kit Siang and Wan Azizah, are his enemies. But he should have realised this when he displaced Wan Azizah, DAP’s candidate for Selangor Menteri Besar. It would have been a matter of time before Azmin would have to face payback day. And GE14 is this payback day.

Kit Siang and Wan Azizah very cleverly made it appear like Dr Mahathir is the opposition pact’s choice for Prime Minister. And Azmin fell for it and went running to Mahathir to make a deal. But Kit Siang and Wan Azizah are merely using Mahathir to bring them to the finish line. There is no way they can agree to Mahathir becoming Prime Minister. And neither does DAP want Azmin as Mahathir’s Deputy Prime Minister, as what Azmin hopes will happen if Mahathir becomes Prime Minister.
